PFAS Sampling
Welcome to the JBPHH PFAS Data page. Here you can find updated information regarding the Navy’s testing of soil and groundwater around the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility.
In response to the November 29, 2022 AFFF concentrate release at the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility, the Navy collected soil samples from the release site to test for PFAS. The Navy also collected groundwater samples from nine groundwater monitoring wells in the vicinity of the release site, as well as samples from the Red Hill Shaft to monitor for AFFF constituents.
Soil and groundwater samples were sent off-island to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency-certified laboratories for testing. Test results are shared with the EPA and Hawaii Department of Health, and are available here for public viewing.
Groundwater Monitoring Well PFAS Baseline Sampling
In September 2023, the Navy collected baseline samples for PFAS in 21 of its groundwater monitoring wells in and around the Red Hill facility. Samples were sent off island to an EPA-certified laboratory for testing. Results will be used to inform future environmental remediation efforts.
